This World Teacher’s Day we are celebrating our faculty:

Paula Banahan, RN, BSN, CVNS

Our students are thankful to Paula for granting them an experience of a lifetime at Arizona Heart Foundation! Ms. Banahan graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor Degree in Science from Boston College School of Nursing. She earned a Cardiovascular Nurse Specialist Certification from the Arizona Heart Institute and has been in the healthcare industry for over 40 years. She developed Arizona’s first heart and heart-lung transplant program and later became the executive director of Arizona Heart Institute. Ms. Banahan has held several leadership and administrative positions in a variety of settings. Outside of work Paula is proud to see her twins leading productive lives and looks forward to visits with her family at their beach house in Massachusetts. In Arizona, she enjoys the climate while hiking and taking long walks with her husband. Thank you for everything you do Paula!

Kelly Gardner, BS, RDCS (AE, PE), RVT

Students say Kelly has a contagious passion for what she does, and she gets an A+ for delivering a challenging curriculum in a way that reaches each and every student in our classroom! Ms. Gardner graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Dual-Associate Degree in Echocardiography & Vascular Technology. Kelly is board certified in adult and pediatric echocardiography and vascular ultrasound. With over 24 years of experience in her field, she has founded multiple successful, accredited diagnostic imaging centers as well as a mobile ultrasound company. Ms. Gardner has a broad range of expertise and we are lucky to have her! In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her three children; shuffling between football and soccer games. Additionally, she enjoys running, hiking, and practicing yoga and pilates. Thank you, Kelly, for encouraging our students and nudging them towards further inquiry and lifelong learning!

Jason Kendrick, BA, RDCS (AE), RVT

Mr. Kendrick has the perfect combination of skills as a sonographer and a teacher! His encouraging style and willingness to teach in multiple learning styles creates a feeling of success and confidence in his students. Mr. Kendrick graduated from the University of Oregon and Is currently working toward his MBA with a focus on health administration. He is a graduate of Arizona Heart Foundation’s ultrasound program and has been with Phoenix Indian Medical Center and Banner Hospitals for the past four years. During his time as a high school teacher, Mr. Kendrick designed and implemented a new curriculum for science, health and PE to be used. He enjoys exploring the outdoors and swimming with his two children outside of work. Thank you Jason!

Malka Stromer, M.Ed, BSc., RDMS, CRGS

Ms. Stromer is new to Arizona Heart Foundation, and we are excited to have her on board an see where she leads our students! She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from York University in Toronto, Canada. She has spent the past 13 years of her career as a professor, first at her Alma mater Mohawk College, then at Gateway Community College in Phoenix. She speaks at various professional events and educational institutes on topics including sonography and her research in the ethics of ultrasound. Recently she has won the John and Suanne Rouche Excellence Award through the League for innovation in the Community Colleges. Malka is an avid tennis player and enjoys spending her free time making memories with her husband and two children.
